Neon Green Meteor Lights Up New Hartford Skies for 4 Seconds

On the evening of May 1, 2015, as darkness enveloped New Hartford, NY, I witnessed a sudden and striking spectacle that etched itself into my memory.

At precisely 9:28 pm, a large neon green light, accented with shimmering gold and pristine white, arched gracefully through the night sky. It lasted only four seconds but left a lasting impression. The light moved northward, tracing an elegant arc from roughly the 8 o’clock to the 7 o’clock position.

Its tail was unlike anything I’d seen before—thicker and more substantial than a typical meteor’s delicate golden thread. Imagine a trail more like 3/8 to 1/2 inches wide, almost like a sparkling streamer of light. This brilliant flash reminded me vividly of the glowing sparks from sparklers, yet it was far grander and more mysterious.

As a witness, the experience was both thrilling and humbling, a shimmering reminder of the wonders hidden in our night skies. Moments like these ignite curiosity and wonder, inviting all who watch to look upward and dream about the unknown beyond our world.
