While driving through the city of Mesa, Arizona, on a clear morning at 9:50 AM on August 26, 2014, I encountered something extraordinary in the sky. After a week of monsoon rains, the sky had finally cleared, revealing an unusual spectacle above the usual air traffic zones near Falcon Field and Sky Harbor airports.
At first glance, what I saw resembled a conventional airplane—a white, textured contraption moving through a flight zone. But then I noticed something was off: it was flying against the mandated flight path traffic typically follows in this area. This alone caused me to stop and watch more closely.
The object’s shape was disk-like, resembling half of a bike helmet in form—smooth, wingless, and designed with aerodynamics in mind. It barely swerved back and forth, so subtly that one might think it was flying straight unless observed carefully. When I tried to capture the moment on my phone, the object quickly increased its distance, moving faster than expected despite us traveling in the same direction.
I managed to snap a picture; initially, the object was almost invisible until zoomed in, revealing its distinct form. I observed it for approximately two minutes—enough time to cover about two miles at 40 miles per hour.
Moments later, as I neared my destination, two Air Force jets roared past, ascending vertically with afterburners blazing. Remarkably, they seemed slower than the disk-shaped object they appeared to be pursuing. Unlike commercial airliners that display blinking lights and obvious wings, this craft lacked such features, making it all the more enigmatic.
The experience left me with more questions than answers. Was this a secret military craft, a new experimental technology, or something not from this world? Whatever it was, its swift maneuvering, unusual shape, and the jet chase that followed suggest it was no ordinary aircraft. This sighting remains vivid in my mind, a strange moment of mystery etched in the clear blue skies of Mesa, AZ.
