Living in the coastal city of Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico, I’ve always found solace and excitement in photography, especially when capturing the ever-changing sky. On September 2, 2006, while photographing a breathtaking and rapidly evolving sunset, I unknowingly captured something truly mysterious in my images. It was not until two days later, as I was reviewing my photos, that I noticed peculiar shapes emerging among the usual vibrant colors.
Using a high-quality 10.0 digital camera, I had no hint of anything unusual through the viewfinder while snapping the shots. This makes what I found all the more striking. The photos reveal two distinct shapes: one resembling a cylindrical form with a middle bump, seeming as if smoke or some propulsion was trailing behind it. To the left of this, a smaller object appears, positioned further in the distance. Another image depicts a luminous, circular dot shimmering among dark clouds. In yet another photo, an elongated, undefined figure looms large above a nearby house, its size disproportionate and perplexing.
These anomalous shapes seem to be hovering or moving, cloaked in an aura or haze, leaving behind a subtle trail that hints at motion or energy. None of my other photos from that day show these phenomena, which rules out any lens smudges or photographic errors.
As someone who had always been fascinated by the skies but grounded in reality, this experience has left me both intrigued and puzzled. What were these entities? Creatures of light and shadow? Unidentified airborne phenomena? The images continue to evoke a sense of wonder and the unknown, a reminder of the mysteries still hidden just beyond our sight in the Mexican twilight.
