I was only 11 years old when a game of hide and seek in the dark turned into a haunting experience I’ll never forget. It was over my neighbor’s house in St. Catharines, Ontario, when suddenly my little sister screamed out of nowhere. We all ran to see what had frightened her and were stunned to see a disk-shaped object hovering in the sky.
This wasn’t any ordinary light in the night. The object was adorned with an array of colors impossible to fully describe — vibrant hues glowing around its top, middle, and bottom sections. It emitted a strange sound and even caused electrical or magnetic disturbances nearby, making the air feel charged with tension.
Fearing for our safety, we quickly told our siblings to hide, and my best guy friend and I hid as well. After about two minutes, a blinding flash of light filled the sky, and before we could comprehend it, the object zoomed away into the darkness.
In the aftermath, we rushed inside and barricaded ourselves—locked all the windows, shut the curtains, and my friend hid under the bed for the rest of the night. The fear was so intense that my friend’s parents had to practically drag him out of my room the next day. My little sister and I were so overwhelmed that we slept in the same bed for two years after that night.
We eventually moved away, but I can’t forget what I saw. Even today, at 15, the memory still haunts me. Nightmares come and go, reminding me of that chilling encounter with the unknown over St. Catharines. It’s a story not easy to shake off, a lingering mystery that changed the way I see the night sky forever.
